Panel slams govt for thin budget for armed forces

In the overall Rs 2.95 lakh crore budget for defence in 2018-2019, only Rs 93,982 crore was earmarked under the capital outlay for military modernization. This despite the MoD projecting a requirement of Rs 1.72 lakh crore, which included Rs 1.10 lakh crore for “committed liabilities” (instalments for defence deals inked earlier) and Rs 31,435 crore for new projects.
