Modi surprises markets by naming Sitharaman as finance minister

PM Narendra Modi surprised markets by naming Nirmala Sitharaman, formerly the country’s defence minister, as the next finance minister at a time when Asia’s third-largest economy is stuttering. The benchmark BSE sensex plunged 118 points or 0.30% to close at 39,714, while the broader NSE Nifty settled 0.19% lower at 11,923.
