Markets open in red, Sensex down nearly 1,000 pts

The gains made on Wednesday lost on Thursday with the benchmark BSE Sensex losing nearly 1,000 points in early trade to trade below the 34,000-mark. The broader NSE Nifty remained under 10,200 levels. Equity indices looked dismal due to the falling rupee and weak global cues. Indian rupee plunged to 74.45 against the US currency, another new record.
