J&K ceases to be a state; two new UTs come into being

At the stroke of midnight, Jammu & Kashmir ceased to be a state of the Union, making way for two new Union territories of J&K and Ladakh. IAS officers, who have been appointed the new Lieutenant Governors for the Union territories of J&K, and Ladakh respectively, will be sworn-in at separate functions to be held in Srinagar and Leh on Thursday.
