Desis have donated over $ 1.2bn to US alma maters since 2000

The most prevalent recipient fields of donations were business (23.5%) and medicine (20.6%), closely followed by South Asia Studies (17.6 %). Among the biggest donors to US institutions are the Florida couple Pallavi and Kiran Patel, who contributed tens of millions of dollars to University of Southern Florida and Nova Southeastern University.
